About WALMARTIANS
I started WALMARTIANS in 2008 in part to entertain my then two-year-old son Ian. At the time I’d just gotten back into playing music after a long break. He enjoyed listening as I played and even at that early age had ideas for album and song titles. He’s probably the only person to have memorized the entire discography.
Since that time it has been a pretty steady stream of material. There have been a few side projects here and there – We Come From Another Time In Your World (a more electronic and structured take on the WALMARTIANS approach), Murray (my outlet for those rare times where I actually write lyrics or want to cover someone else’s material), and Bigfoot Motel (my languishing partnership with former Purple Fish bassist and lyricist R. Darin Brock).
I wish I could take credit for the name, but I think I originally read it in an article on Slate or Salon. Briefly I toyed with idea of calling it THE WALMARTIANS, but ultimately dropped the article. As the music has evolved over course of more than a dozen album- and EP-length collections I’ve thought a few times about changing the name. But I think I’m stuck with it now.
Pretty much everything I’ve recorded as WALMARTIANS is available here – some good, some bad and some in between. It has proven to be a great outlet and hobby and I’m very thankful to friends who’ve been encouraging and provided feedback along the way.
